Hurricanes | Science Project - Science Fair Project Ideas ... In fact hurricanes occur every year, even multiple times a year. Each hurricane is a tropical storm related to cyclones and tornadoes, some big and some small. Each hurricane is measured based upon several variables like: wind speed, diameter, direction of movement and speed of movement. Does the size of the hurricane correlate with the wind speed? Try This Simple Science Experiment on Hurricanes With Empty ... A hurricane is a type of tropical cyclone, a disruptive weather system, characterized by a spiral, donut-like shape. Hurricanes can carry thunderstorms and rain, though the force of cyclonic winds can often be enough to cause severe damage on their own. There are no concrete factors that can be pinpointed as the cause of hurricane formation. However, there are several conditionswhich are linked with tropical cyclones: 1. Warm water 2. Rapidly cooling air leading to the release of heat 3. High humidity 4. Low wind shear 5. An existing storm system 6. Low atmospheric pressure These conditions cause water to evaporate and swirl, forming a vortex. Warm water at the storm center evaporates and is drawn upward. The vapor spirals outward and sinks back down as it reaches the edges of the hurricane. This cycle of evaporation and cooling continues, increasing or decreasing depending on region. For example, if the storm passes over a warm body of water, it is likely to increase in size. Howev...

Hurricanes and Climate | Science Project The past few years have histories of extremely powerful and dangerous storms. Storms have also become more numerous over the last few years. To investigate potential effects of climate on hurricane number and strength, in this project you will study the effects of El Niño on hurricanes. The goal of this project is to study the historic relationship between the El Niño/Southern Oscillation (ENSO) and the number and strength of hurricanes, either in the Atlantic or Pacific Oceans. Since this is an abbreviated Science Buddies project idea, we will not provide you with a complete step-by-step procedure. You will need to do some of your own background research and figure out your own procedure to do this project. Note: much of the background information presented below was originally written in 2006. Climate change is a very "current" research topic, with new articles and studies being published all the time. Before starting this project, you should do some of your own research into more...
